With the festive season drawing massive crowds to railway stations across the country, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday to personally review passenger facilities and crowd management efforts. His visit came amid one of the year’s busiest travel weekends, as thousands of people visit home to celebrate Diwali and Chhath.

During his inspection, Vaishnaw visited passenger waiting halls, ticket counters, and areas set up for crowd management. He also spoke with passengers on the platforms and inside trains to understand their travel experience and gather feedback firsthand. He also examined the functioning of the control room, which keeps an eye on station security through a network of CCTV cameras.

Crowd movement smooth and well-organised: Vaishnaw

“Today, around 75,000 passengers have arrived at New Delhi Station together,” Vaishnaw told reporters at the New Delhi Railway Station. “The newly created Passenger Facilitation Centre, with multiple ticket counters and good ventilation, has made movement smooth and well-organised.”

He noted that the station was witnessing peak rush but commended Indian Railways for its meticulous preparation, saying the massive crowd was handled efficiently without causing major inconvenience to travellers.

Vaishnaw also shared a video on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he was seen interacting with passengers and inspecting operations along with several railway officials.

“Inspected crowd management during festive rush at New Delhi Railway Station,” he wrote.

Special measures for 75,000 passengers

Railway officials informed the Union Minister about the special arrangements made to handle the surge of more than 75,000 passengers, such as larger waiting areas and additional staff to assist travellers.

Appreciating the smooth coordination among the railway teams, Vaishnaw encouraged them to uphold top standards of safety, cleanliness, and punctuality during the busy festive period.
