Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy flagged off the inaugural Secunderabad-Vasco Da Gama Express at the Secunderabad railway station. This new service, which operates twice a week, addresses the long-standing demand for an exclusive train to Goa from Hyderabad, fulfilling the wishes of local residents.

Convenient Travel Options for Local Residents

The express train will provide convenient travel options for people in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh looking to visit Goa. Additionally, it caters to those traveling to major cities in Karnataka, including Ballari, Hospet, Hubbali, and Dharwad. Minister Reddy emphasized the importance of the service in enhancing connectivity for these regions.

Reddy also highlighted ongoing railway development projects in Telangana. The Secunderabad railway station is undergoing a significant redevelopment aimed at achieving world-class standards, with an estimated budget of Rs 700 crores. The completion of this project is expected by the end of 2025.

Notably, the Secunderabad station ranks second only to the New Delhi railway station in operating the highest number of Vande Bharat Express services, connecting important destinations such as Bengaluru, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, and Nagpur.

In addition, a railway manufacturing unit is being established in Kazipet, Telangana, with an investment of Rs 520 crores. This initiative is projected to create approximately 3,000 jobs upon completion.

The minister noted that development works at the Cherlapalli Railway terminal in Hyderabad are nearing completion, and major stations in the twin cities, including Hyderabad and Kacheguda, will receive modern infrastructure upgrades.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Congress Rajya Sabha member M. Anil Kumar Yadav and senior railway officials, underscoring the significance of this new service for the region.

What It Means for Travelers

For travelers, this new service represents more than just a train ride; it is a gateway to explore Goa’s stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and historical sites. The direct route significantly reduces travel time, making it easier for families, tourists, and business travelers to visit the coastal state. With increased accessibility to popular destinations in Karnataka, the train opens up new opportunities for exploration and tourism, enhancing the overall travel experience.
