The Prayagraj Rail Division, part of the North Central Railway Zone, has issued a warning to a farmers’ union based in Uttar Pradesh. The division stated that if members of the Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Union (ABKU), which is located in Etah, travel without tickets for their planned events from October 2 to 4, they will face consequences in accordance with the Railway Act.

The ABKU has scheduled several activities across various cities in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, starting on October 2, 2024. A letter dated October 1 from the division’s commercial department, directed to the national president of the ABKU, highlighted that the farmers and union representatives intend to travel by train without tickets, as they have done in the past.

The letter referenced Section 55 of the Railway Act of 1989, emphasising that no individual is permitted to travel on trains without a valid ticket or without the proper authorization from a railway official. It warned that travelling without a ticket is a punishable offence, and violators will be subject to legal action.

Furthermore, the letter stated that if the railways incur any financial losses or property damage, or if any incidents occur, the union would be held accountable, and appropriate actions would be taken under the Railway Act of 1989.
