Following heavy crowding at Ahmedabad railway station, where passengers were struggling to board trains heading home for Chhath Puja and Diwali, the Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway (WR) has suspended platform ticket sales at all three major railway stations in the city – Ahmedabad (Kalupur), Sabarmati, and Asarwa, The Indian Express reported.

The suspension, effective from October 27 to November 6, restricts entry to only those holding valid train tickets, barring family members or others who typically come to see off passengers.

This move comes in response to the significant rush, especially for trains like the Jansadharan Express, which transports migrant workers to northern and eastern states. Although the decision was made Sunday evening, the official announcement was issued Monday morning.

Additionally, a WR Regional Rail Users Consultative Committee member had appealed to the General Manager on Friday and Saturday, requesting extra trains to accommodate the festive season’s high demand.
