Northern Railway’s General Manager, Shobhan Chaudhuri, spearheaded a performance review meeting at Baroda House, the headquarters of Northern Railway in New Delhi, according to a press release. The meeting convened departmental heads and Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) to assess various aspects of the railway’s operations, with a primary focus on safety, freight loading, and punctuality.

Prioritising safety and efficiency

Discussions during the meeting delved into critical areas such as safety measures, rail fractures, and passenger amenities, as well as initiatives aimed at increasing train speed and digitizing railway records. Material management and scrap disposal were also addressed as part of the ongoing efforts to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.

Chaudhuri mentioned the importance of maintaining track integrity, ensuring the quality of welds in joints, and optimizing signaling systems and rolling stock assets to facilitate uninterrupted train operations. Recognizing the frontline staff as crucial stakeholders, he emphasised the need for regular training and familiarization with new technologies to enhance their effectiveness.

Efforts to alleviate bottlenecks, improve train speed through measures like eliminating level crossings, doubling, electrification, and constructing road overbridges and underbridges (ROBs and RUBs) were highlighted. Chaudhuri urged concerned departments to expedite these projects while maintaining adequate stocks of materials for repairs and maintenance, along with timely scrap disposal. He also stressed the importance of digitalising all railway records to enhance transparency.

Underlining the commitment to completing essential projects, Chaudhuri noted the steady increase in the loading of food grains and other commodities month by month, indicating the railway’s dedication to providing safe, smooth, and efficient services to its customers.

Overall, the meeting underscored Northern Railway’s proactive approach to addressing operational challenges and its commitment to delivering quality service to passengers and freight customers alike.
