Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw took a major step in boosting connectivity and infrastructure in the Northeast region by flagging off three new trains from Guwahati Railway Station. These initiatives come as part of a broader vision to enhance the region’s transport and communication systems.

New Trains to Strengthen Regional Connectivity

The three newly introduced trains include:

  1. Guwahati–New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express: This train aims to enhance accessibility between Guwahati and North Lakhimpur, improving the convenience for commuters in the region.
  2. New Bongaigaon–Guwahati Passenger Train: Connecting the two important cities, this train will provide more travel options for passengers along this route.
  3. Tinsukia–Naharlagun Express: Aimed at strengthening the link between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, this train will make travel faster and more efficient for those in both states.

Tetelia Road Over Bridge to Reduce Traffic Congestion

In a major infrastructure boost, Ashwini Vaishnaw also inaugurated the Tetelia Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Dispur. The construction of this bridge is part of a broader initiative to eliminate manned level crossing gates and reduce traffic congestion in the region. The ROB is expected to significantly ease the movement of vehicles and enhance safety.

Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated a 10 KW FM transmitter at Akashvani Kokrajhar. Since its inception in 1999, the station has been operating with a 20 KW Medium Wave transmitter. The addition of the FM transmitter will expand coverage, offering better reception quality over a 70-kilometer radius, benefiting more than 30 lakh residents in Kokrajhar and surrounding districts such as Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Chirang.

Additionally, he reviewed ongoing projects of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to ensure timely execution and address any challenges faced in infrastructure development.

Revamped Train Schedule for Better Connectivity

Alongside the new train launches, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) implemented a revised train schedule from January 1. Several important routes saw major upgrades, including the speeding up of 43 trains, which will cut travel times significantly. For instance, the Kamakhya-Gomti Nagar Express will now save 75 minutes, while the SMVT Bengaluru-New Tinsukia Express will become 120 minutes faster.

Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express: Connecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

The newly introduced Tinsukia-Naharlagun-Tinsukia Express is a major addition to the region’s railway network. Covering a distance of 225 km in 6 hours and 10 minutes, this train connects Assam with Arunachal Pradesh. It will operate three times a week, providing a faster and more efficient means of travel for passengers.

Guwahati-New Bongaigaon Passenger Train: A New Daily Service

The Guwahati-New Bongaigaon Passenger Train, which covers around 160 km in 5 hours and 15 minutes, will offer enhanced connectivity between Guwahati and New Bongaigaon. The unreserved train will stop at 15 stations along its route, providing more options for daily commuters.

Guwahati-North Lakhimpur Jan Shatabdi Express: Fast and Comfortable

The Guwahati-North Lakhimpur Jan Shatabdi Express, covering 342 km in 6 hours and 25 minutes, will provide passengers with a fast and comfortable journey. With multiple stops along the way, the train aims to improve travel options for commuters in the region.

Ashwini Vaishnaw’s visit marks a significant step towards transforming the transport, communication, and education infrastructure in the Northeast region. With the launch of new trains, the enhancement of broadcasting services, and the inauguration of vital infrastructure projects, these initiatives will play a crucial role in boosting connectivity and supporting the region’s growth. As these projects progress, the residents of Northeast India can expect improved quality of life and greater economic opportunities.
