Northeast India’s first Vande Bharat Express has registered exceptional passenger occupancy rates since its inauguration. The semi-high speed train was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 29, 2023. This was the seventh blue and white colour train introduced in the current fiscal year. The train is being maintained and operated by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone. 

Route of Northeast India’s first Vande Bharat Express:-

This semi-high speed train connects Assam’s Guwahati with West Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri railway station. This is also the third new age train for the state of West Bengal after Howrah-New Jalpaiguri and Howrah-Puri Vande Bharat Express.

Passenger Occupancy of Train number 22227/22228 Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati Vande Bharat Express:-

Train number 22227 (New Jalpaiguri – Guwahati) Vande Bharat Express has registered 96.93 percent occupancy and train number 22228 (Guwahati – New Jalpaiguri) Vande Bharat Express has registered an average occupancy of 93 percent since its inception till September 13, 2023.

Stoppages of Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri- Guwahati Vande Bharat Express:- 

During its journey between Guwahati – New Jalpaiguri and vice versa, this blue and white colour train halts at five railway stations. These are – Kamakhya, New Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, New Alipurduar and New Coochbehar stations.

The Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati Vande Bharat Express covers a distance of 409 kms in 5 hours and 30 minutes. It is the fastest train on the route. The train operates six days a week except Tuesday. 

Significance of Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati Vande Bharat Express:-

Assam’s first Vande Bharat Express train has proven beneficial for the traders, businessmen and people of neighbouring cities. The train has greatly reduced the average travel time of passengers of both the directions by nearly o­ne and half hours. The train has improved the connectivity to tourist places such as Maa Kamakhya Temple, Kaziranga, Manas National Park, and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.
