The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has marked a significant milestone with the successful launch of a 45-meter long span over the Petlad Canal, an irrigation canal of the Mahisagar River. The operation, completed on August 11, 2024, is a crucial development in the high-speed rail project, aimed at enhancing connectivity between the two major cities.
Launch of 45m span over Petlad canal
The Petlad Canal, which spans 46 kilometers and passes through 193 villages, has a width of 40 meters. To avoid any disruption to the canal’s water flow, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) carefully coordinated the launch. The span, composed of 19 segments, was seamlessly joined to bridge the canal without affecting its essential function for local irrigation.
This achievement underscores the NHSRCL’s commitment to balancing major infrastructure development with environmental and community needs. The successful completion of this span represents a critical step forward in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, which promises to significantly reduce travel time and improve transportation efficiency between Anand and Ahmedabad.
The project continues to progress as planned, with this milestone demonstrating the advanced engineering and logistical capabilities involved in building India’s first high-speed rail corridor. The Petlad Canal crossing not only advances the Bullet Train project but also reflects the ongoing efforts to integrate modern infrastructure with existing regional systems.
