Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday (November 27) informed that the Central government has allocated 6,080 crore rupees for the railway sector’s development in Tamil Nadu over the past year. 

Comparing this to the pre-2014 period under the UPA government when Tamil Nadu’s allocation was merely 879 crores, Vaishnaw highlighted the significant increase in funding by PM Narendra Modi

“Before 2014, when the UPA government was there, the allocation for Tamil Nadu used to be only 879 crores. PM Modi is today giving Rs 6,080 crores for the railway sector in Tamil Nadu. The projects which were pending in past are progressing very well. 75 stations in Tamil Nadu state are being redeveloped to a world-class level,” Vaishnaw said. 

Hosur Jolarpet inter-rail service project 

Addressing the long-standing demand for the Hosur Jolarpet inter-rail service project, Vaishnaw mentioned that the assessment is underway, and work will commence soon after evaluating cost efficiency. He acknowledged the project’s challenges, including the construction of a tunnel, and assured regular follow-ups for timely completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and obtaining sanctions.

Multi-modal cargo terminal in Hosur

Furthermore, Vaishnaw announced plans for the development of a multi-modal cargo terminal in the Hosur area to provide efficient logistic solutions for industries, fostering employment growth. “A multi-modal cargo terminal for Hosur area would be developed so that the industries could get the correct logistic solutions and employment could grow for all,” he said.

Subsequently, Vaishnaw traveled to Bengaluru by train from Hosur, accompanied by BJP cadres, including former MP Narasimhan and Tamil Nadu BJP West District President Nagaraj. During the journey, railway passengers’ association members presented petitions to the minister outlining various demands.
