The Sivok-Rangpo New Rail Line Project, a crucial infrastructure development aimed at enhancing rail connectivity in Sikkim, is making significant strides. Covering a total length of 44.96 kilometers, this project promises to bolster transportation and economic growth in the northeastern region of India.
Work Completed
- Piling Work: The project has successfully completed 23,953 meters of piling work, a key component in establishing the foundation for the rail line.
Work in Progress
- Tunnel Mining: Tunnel mining works have progressed to 36 kilometers, paving the way for the railway tunnels essential for the line.
- Tunnel Lining: Lining work for the tunnels is currently at 16 kilometers, ensuring structural stability and safety.
- Pier Work: The construction of piers, which support the rail tracks, is ongoing with 828 meters already completed.
The Sivok-Rangpo rail line is set to be a game-changer for Sikkim, as it will provide much-needed rail connectivity to the region, which has long been underserved by railway infrastructure. This new rail link is expected to significantly improve transportation, support local economies, and integrate Sikkim more closely with the rest of the country.
