The Ministry of Railways recently shared an update on the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag New BG Rail Line project, which is set to transform connectivity in Uttarakhand’s Devbhoomi region. Spanning a distance of 125.20 kilometers, the project aims to enhance accessibility to the revered Char Dham pilgrimage sites and boost infrastructure in five key districts of the state.
Progress in Tunnel Construction and Station Development
The ministry’s tweet highlighted ongoing work, revealing significant progress in both station construction and tunnel work. Out of the total planned 213 kilometers of tunnels, 176 kilometers have been completed. The project also involves the development of 11 stations along the route, ensuring a smoother and faster travel experience for pilgrims and locals alike.
Once completed, the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line is expected to dramatically enrich connectivity to the Char Dham, simplifying travel to these sacred destinations. In addition to facilitating religious tourism, the rail line will contribute to the overall economic and infrastructural growth of the region by enhancing rail connectivity across the five districts it will serve.
