The Ministry of Railways on Sunday (June 23) shared an update on the Mathura-Jhansi 3rd Line Project and said that it has achieved a major milestone with the commissioning of 193 kilometers of its total 274-kilometer stretch. This project was sanctioned during the fiscal year 2015-16 and aims to alleviate capacity constraints and accommodate future traffic growth on the crucial north-south corridor of the Indian Railways.
The completion of 193 kilometers marks a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity and fostering development in the Chambal region and Bundelkhand area.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the project’s successful implementation is expected to propel economic growth by improving accessibility and connectivity for local communities along the route.
Among the anticipated benefits of the Mathura-Jhansi 3rd Line Project are the augmentation of average train speeds, which will not only enhance passenger comfort but also optimise freight movement, crucial for economic activities in the region.
Newly commissioned section connects UP, MP, Raj
The newly commissioned section spans across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, covering a total of 31 intermediate stations and cutting through diverse landscapes including major rivers like Govardhan, Chambal, Kuari, and Sindh. Notably, the alignment runs parallel to the existing DN track, except for a specific 26-kilometer stretch between Kitham and Bhandai stations, where the bypassing of Agra Cantt. and Raja ki Mandi stations optimizes traffic flow and operational efficiency.
As per the Ministry’s statement, the remaining 81 kilometers of the project are under active development, with construction progressing steadily.
