Indian Railways is preparing to launch the Vande Bharat sleeper train soon, marking a significant upgrade over the Rajdhani Express. The Vande Bharat sleeper aims to revolutionise overnight travel with its enhanced speed, comfort, and safety features. Unlike the Rajdhani Express, which has long been a popular choice for premium train travel, the Vande Bharat sleeper will offer several advancements.

The Vande Bharat sleeper train, designed to offer better speed, comfort, and safety than the Rajdhani Express. This self-propelled train includes enhanced berths, automatic doors, bio-vacuum toilets, and improved fire safety systems. 

Is Vande Bharat sleeper train better than Rajdhani Express? 

  1. The Vande Bharat sleeper train can reach a top speed of 160 km/h, offering quicker acceleration and deceleration, which results in significantly shorter travel times.
  2. Indian Railways reports that the berths in this new train are enhanced with better cushioning for superior comfort during sleep. Additionally, the ladders provide easier access to the upper and middle berths.
  3. Unlike the Rajdhani Express, the Vande Bharat sleeper is self-propelled, meaning it doesn’t need a locomotive. With driver cabins at both ends, this design reduces turnaround time at stations.
  4. The train features fully sealed gangways, which help maintain a dust-free environment while ensuring more efficient air conditioning throughout.
  5. For improved durability and safety, the side walls, roof, end walls, floor sheets, and cab are made from austenitic steel.
  6. The Vande Bharat sleeper train includes automatic entry and exit doors controlled by the driver, along with automatic interconnecting doors between coaches for greater passenger convenience.
  7. The train comes equipped with bio-vacuum toilets that include touch-free fittings, as well as a shower cubicle in the AC first class coach.
  8. For superior safety, the train incorporates crash buffers and deformation tubes. It also meets the EN 45545 HL3 fire safety standard and includes a fire barrier wall for additional protection.
  9. Railway officials indicate that the Vande Bharat sleeper will deliver a smoother, jerk-free ride experience. The prototype consists of 16 coaches: one AC first-class, four AC 2-tier, and eleven AC 3-tier coaches, accommodating a total of 823 passengers.
  10. According to the reports, the Vande Bharat sleeper train is set to surpass Rajdhani trains, particularly regarding fire safety standards. It will use different couplers and optimized design features to enhance ride quality.
