Adding another feather to its cap, Indian Railways has completed the work of doubling the Rajpura-Bathinda Rail Line (172.64 Km). Now, the section is fully commissioned, said the Ministry of Railways, on Friday.

Now, there will be smoother freight and passenger train movement in this section, the ministry added.

“Doubling of Rajpura-Bathinda Rail Line(172.64 Km). Status: Fully commissioned. Enhance line capacity between Bathinda & Rajpura. Facilitate smoother freight & passenger train movement. Reduce travel time,” said the ministry on X.

In December 2016, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its consent for doubling of Rajpura-Bhatinda railway line at an estimated cost of Rs.1,251.25 crore and expected completion cost of Rs.1,465.59 crore.

At that time, the 172.64 km long railway line was expected to be completed in five years. In the Ambala Division of the Northern Railway, the Rajpura-Bathinda section falls.

In another related but different development, the work on the Kharagpur-Adityapur 3rd Line Project is going on swiftly. The length of the entire project is 132 km, out of which 121.5 km rail line was commissioned, informed the Ministry of Railways.

After completion, the Kharagpur-Adityapur 3rd Line will benefit steel and power plants along the Howrah-Mumbai Trunk Route, the ministry added.
