Dense fog and severe chilly weather conditions continued to hamper train and flight movements to and from the national capital on Saturday morning, causing inconvenience to passengers. The arrival of many passenger trains in Delhi faced delays of up to 6 hours or more today. 

The dense fog has led to 11 Delhi-bound trains running behind schedule, adding to the challenges posed by the prevalent weather conditions across the country.

Low visibility in north India 

According to the India Meteorological Department, visibility plummeted to as low as 50 meters around 5:30 am on Saturday in isolated regions, affecting areas in Punjab, West Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Tripura, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and East Rajasthan. 

Dense fog over north India disrupts travel

IMD indicates that dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to persist over parts of north India for the next five days. According to the IMD, there is no anticipated significant change in minimum temperatures over Northwest India in the next 24 hours. However, a rise of approximately 2 degrees Celsius is expected over the course of the next seven days.

Delhi and its neighboring regions are currently placed under an “orange alert,” as declared by the weather department in their recent announcement. According to IMD, isolated areas in Delhi will encounter cold to severe cold day conditions, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to hover around 15 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
