The Indian Railways has taken up the charge of redeveloping railway stations across the length and breadth of India under the Amrit Bharat Stations scheme. 

On August 6, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations. These stations will be redeveloped at a cost of more than Rs 24,470 crores. Under this, 55 railway stations in Uttar Pradesh will be redeveloped. Other than this, 55 station in Rajasthan, 9 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 each in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 each in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana, 13 in Karnataka will undergo redevelopment.

Proposed design for Sirhind Junction

Today, the Railway Ministry took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a glimpse of what Punjab’s Sirhind Jn. Railway station would look like after its redevelopment.

Tweeting the picture, the ministry wrote, “A Paradigm Shift: A look at the proposed design of Sirhind Jn. Railway station in Punjab undergoes a stunning revamp, for an elevated experience for travellers.”

In order to redevelop the 22 stations in Punjab, Rs 4,762 crore has been allocated. 

The 15 railway stations in Haryana which will be redeveloped are Kot Kapura Junction, Sirhind, Abohar, Fazilka, Firozpur Cantt, Gurdaspur, Pathankot City, Jalandhar Cantt Junction, Phillaur Junction, Kapurthala, Dhandari Kalan, Ludhiana Junction, Mansa, SASN Mohali, Patiala, Anandpur Sahib, Nangal Dam, Rup Nagar, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Sangrur and Muktsar.
