The scheme aims at enhancing the overall passenger experience and breathing a new life into travel hubs. It envisages development of stations on a continuous basis with a long term vision. In this context, West Bengal’s Nabadwip Dham railway station deserves special mention.
About Nabadwip Dham railway station
The Nabadwip Dham rail station falls under the administrative jurisdiction of Eastern Railway’s (ER) Howrah Division. It is situated in Nadia district of the state and is the main station of the Nabadwip town. All EMU (local trains), Passenger and Express trains stop at this station. It is one of the important stations of the Bandel-Katwa branch line. It has a very good rail communication system with North Bengal, Assam, Kolkata etc.
Redevelopment of Nabadwip Dham railway station
Presently, the zonal railway is carrying out a comprehensive transformation of this station. This ambitious project includes station resurfacing, plumbing upgrades, and beautification efforts to provide world-class facilities and services to the public.
- Station Resurfacing: The station’s platforms and walkways are being resurfaced to provide a smoother and more comfortable experience for commuters. This resurfacing work will also contribute to improved safety standards.
- Plumbing Upgrades: The plumbing system at the station is being modernized to ensure clean and efficient water supply and sanitation facilities for passengers and station staff.
- Beautification: Beautification efforts are underway to transform the station into an aesthetically pleasing space. This includes landscaping, the installation of vibrant artwork, and the addition of green spaces to create a more welcoming environment.
In a statement, Kausik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Eastern Railway has expressed gratitude to the citizens for their patience during the construction phase and assures them that the final result will be well worth the wait. “This transformation aligns with the government’s vision of a New India, where infrastructure development plays a pivotal role in improving the lives of citizens,” CPRO said.
Significance of Nabadwip Dham railway station
The Nabadwip railway station has the nation’s seventh longest platform with an impressive length of 720 meters (2362 ft). It is located about 105 km from Howrah and 38 km from Katwa Junction. The Nabadwip town is considered as a holy place by Hindus. It is also the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The tourists can visit the world famous Iskcon temple in Mayapur by deboarding at this station.
