The Railway Board has announced plans to complete the addition of 1,000 general coaches to 370 trains by the end of November, enabling daily travel for an additional one lakh passengers. In a press statement on Tuesday, the Board revealed that 583 general coaches have already been integrated into several trains.
The process of adding the remaining coaches is underway across all rail zones and divisions nationwide and will be completed by month-end, a senior Railway Board official said.
Looking ahead, the Board has started planning to address the festive rush of Holi in 2025. It aims to introduce 10,000 non-AC coaches over the next two years, increasing the daily capacity by more than eight lakh passengers.
“Manufacturing work of these coaches are going on in Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala on a war footing so that the deadline can be me,” the official added.
All 10,000 coaches will be of the LHB category, offering advanced safety features and improved passenger amenities, he added.
