The Trump administration’s crackdown on legal and illegal migrants has shaken America’s immigrant population. But a solution seems to be on the horizon.
Lawmakers in the US have introduced The Dignity Act, aimed to provide undocumented immigrants who meet strict conditions with an earned opportunity to live and work legally, with dignity and accountability.
Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, along with a group of 20 members, have introduced a new and improved version of the DIGNITY Act – the DIGNITY Act of 2025, calling it a bold, historic, and commonsense immigration reform bill.
The Dignity Act of 2025
“The Dignity Act of 2025 is a revolutionary bill that offers the solution to our immigration crisis: secure the border, stop illegal immigration, and provide an earned opportunity for long-term immigrants to stay here and work. No amnesty. No handouts. No citizenship. Just accountability and a path to stability for our economy and our future.”
These lawmakers feel that the Dignity Act provides a long-awaited solution by securing the border, restoring law and order, revitalizing the American workforce, and allowing select long-term undocumented immigrants to obtain legal status without amnesty or a road to citizenship.
Congressman Valadao called for immigration reform that restores law and order, ends illegal immigration, and gives undocumented individuals who meet specific standards the opportunity to live and work in America legally.
Congresswoman Escobar acknowledges the economic and social contributions made by immigrants to the United States. “Immigrants are an essential part of our communities, as well as the American workforce and economy, particularly those who have been in the country for decades.
The great majority of immigrants are law-abiding, hardworking citizens, and the majority of Americans agree that bipartisan reforms are best for our nation.”
7-year Dignity Program
One of the key provisions of the Act is to introduce a Dignity Program, a 7-year earned legal status program allowing undocumented immigrants to live and work legally, with renewable status based on good conduct and restitution.
The Act also aims to mandate E-verification to prevent illegal hiring and protect American jobs.
The other most striking provision is for Dreamer Protections, granting legal status and a path to permanent residency.
The legislation acknowledges that most undocumented individuals are not seeking citizenship at all costs, but rather the dignity of living and working legally, contributing to society, paying taxes, being safe from deportation, and traveling to see family during the holidays.
