The Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 expansion is moving forward rapidly, with the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension nearing completion and expected to open for passengers soon. Following an inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), the official date of operations will be announced separately, bringing the latest addition to the Delhi Metro network closer to reality.
According to Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications at DMRC, the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension of the Magenta Line will be the first segment of Phase 4 to be inaugurated. Currently in the pre-tendering stage, this extension will include the new Krishna Park Underground Station.
Approved on 4 July 2019, Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV expansion includes three major corridors currently under construction: Aerocity to Tughlakabad (19.3 km), Janakpuri West to R.K. Ashram (29.3 km), and Mukundpur (Majlis Park) to Maujpur (12.3 km). These corridors cover a total of 65.2 km and feature 45 stations, with a combination of elevated and underground tracks. The project is budgeted at Rs 24,948.65 crore.
Looking ahead, two additional corridors—Inderlok to Indraprastha and Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block—are in the pre-tendering stage. Approved on 28 March 2024, these will extend the network by 20.8 km and add 18 stations, with a budget of Rs 8,399.81 crore. During Phase-IV operations, metro train frequencies will be optimised to minimise passenger waiting times, with adjustments made in real-time based on demand.
