Bengaluru is set to get a metro boost, as the much-awaited 3.14 km extension of the Namma Metro Green Line from Nagasandra to Madavara opens for commercial operations on November 7, officials announced on Wednesday.
The move comes after it received statutory clearance following a thorough inspection of the stretch by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (Southern Circle) on October 3.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar took the metro for a test spin on Wednesday, joined by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, traveling from Yeshwanthpur Metro Station to Madavara.
The stretch, which falls under Phase-2 of the project, introduces three new stations: Majunathanagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara (BIEC).
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) shared that the line, completed at a cost of Rs 1,168 crore, will provide easier access to the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), a major event hub in Karnataka.
“It is the smallest extension to Phase-1 under Phase-2 of the Project. With completion of this extension, all the extensions to Phase- 1 under Phase-2 of the project are complete,” the BMRCL said in a statement, PTI reported.
Riding along National Highway and crossing the NICE road twice, the extension is expected to add 44,000 passengers to the metro’s daily count. It will directly connect BIEC, which hosts prominent national and international exhibitions, giving the city’s residents and visitors a smoother commute.
When the new stretch opens, Bengaluru’s metro network will expand to 76.95 km with 69 stations. The Green Line will now span 33.46 km, while the Purple Line will reach 43.49 km, marking a milestone for Namma Metro’s expansion journey.
