Delhi Chief Minister Atishi announced that the foundation stone for a new metro corridor connecting Rithala and Kundli will be laid on Sunday. This marks a significant step toward expanding Delhi’s metro network to improve regional connectivity and ease transportation woes for residents.
RRTS Project Inauguration
Atishi also shared plans to inaugurate the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, which aims to connect regions across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. The Delhi government has contributed Rs 1,260 crore to the RRTS, a collaborative effort jointly funded by the Centre and the governments of the participating states.
“The new Rithala-Kundli metro corridor and the RRTS project represent a significant milestone in strengthening inter-state connectivity and easing transport challenges,” Atishi said during a press briefing.
Magenta Line Extension to Boost West Delhi Accessibility
In addition to the Rithala-Kundli corridor, the extension of the Delhi Metro Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park will also be inaugurated. This development is expected to improve accessibility in West Delhi, reducing travel time and making daily commutes more convenient for residents.
Three Priority Corridors Under RRTS
The RRTS project will prioritise the development of three key corridors:
- Delhi-Alwar Corridor
- Delhi-Panipat Corridor
- Delhi-Meerut Corridor
These corridors are designed to enhance public transport networks, reduce road congestion, and foster economic growth in Delhi and its neighbouring states.
Highlighting the broader impact of these initiatives, CM Atishi emphasised their role in boosting the region’s economic development. “Together, these projects aim to enhance the public transport network, reduce traffic congestion, and contribute significantly to the economic growth of Delhi and its neighbouring states,” she stated.
The upcoming metro and transit expansions underline the Delhi government’s commitment to sustainable development, better regional connectivity, and improved urban mobility for millions of commuters.
