The Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey stretch of Mumbai Metro Line 3, known as the aqua line, opened to the public on Monday (October 7). The 12.69-kilometer corridor between Aarey Colony and BKC is part of the larger 33.5-kilometer Colaba-Seepz-Aarey Metro Line 3, which recently received final clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS).
This new metro line is expected to reduce vehicular trips by approximately 650,000, leading to a projected 35% decrease in traffic on the roads along the route. It is estimated that the line will save around 354,000 liters of fuel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase One on Saturday (October 5), taking a ride to Santacruz station and back. During his journey, he interacted with students, beneficiaries of the Maharashtra government’s Ladki Bahin Yojana, and workers involved in the construction of the city’s first underground metro line. He also launched the MetroConnect3 app, aimed at enhancing the travel experience for commuters.

The corridor features ten metro stations: BKC, Bandra Colony, Santacruz, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) T1, Sahar Road, CSMIA T2, Marol Naka, Andheri, SEEPZ and Aarey Colony (JVLR), which is the only station at ground level.
Mumbai Metro Line 3 Timings
The aqua line service will commence at 11 am from both Aarey JVLR station and Bandra-Kurla Complex on October 7 (Monday), with the last train departing at 8:30 pm. Starting October 8, regular services will operate daily from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm (Monday to Saturday) and from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm on Sundays.
Mumbai Metro Line 3 Frequency
The frequency of Mumbai Metro Line 3 is designed to accommodate varying passenger volumes throughout the day. During rush hours, trains will run every 6.5 minutes, ensuring quick and efficient service for commuters. At other times, the trains will operate every 15 to 20 minutes.
The line will facilitate a total of 96 round trips between Aarey and the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) daily. With an estimated daily ridership of around 400,000 passengers, the metro line aims to significantly improve urban transport in the city. Notably, the operational team includes a commendable representation of women, with 10 out of the 48 pilots being female.
