The Metro Railway authorities are set to commence trial runs on the extended stretch of the Orange Line, which will now span from Ruby Crossing to Beleghata station along E M Bypass, from Saturday.
At present, commercial services run along the New Garia to Ruby Crossing stretch of this corridor, covering a distance of 5.4 km and serving five stations: Kavi Subhash, Satyajit Ray, Jyotirindra Nandi, Kavi Sukanta, and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay.
Metro Expansion
This extension will offer commuters the convenience of transferring between the Blue Line (Dakshineswar-New Garia) and the Orange Line at Kavi Subhash station, enhancing connectivity for passengers traveling on both lines.
Metro Railway stated that the trial run on the extended Orange Line aims to evaluate readiness for initiating commercial services from Kavi Subhash to Beleghata stretch in the near future.
Spanning 4.39 km, the extended stretch from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay to Beleghata includes four stations: VIP Bazar, Ritwik Ghatak, Barun Sengupta, and Beleghata.
On April 27, a single empty train will be used to conduct trial runs on both the UP and DN lines. The Commissioner of Railway Safety recently conducted an inspection of this stretch and proposed several suggestions for enhancing infrastructure.
