Good news for the commuters of Kolkata Metro! India’s first metro railway network has developed a token with ‘Chandrayaan-3’ logo on it. This aims at commemorating the country’s first successful soft landing on the lunar surface in an unique way. This new token was introduced on October 10, just before the Durga Puja. The design of this new token has been unveiled by Saumitra Biswas, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Metro Railway at Metro Rail Bhavan.
Availability of ‘Chandrayaan-3’ Metro token
This new ‘Chandrayaan-3’ metro token is available across all the three corridors of the city’s rapid transit system i.e. Blue Line, Green Line and Purple Line. The passengers can purchase these tokens from the booking counters of the three routes.
The Kolkata Metro has targeted to sell one lakh such tokens to mark the success of ‘Chandrayaan-3’. It is also expected that this new token will draw positive responses from the commuters.
Sale of Smart Tokens during Durga Puja
The Metro Railway witnessed a quantum jump in sales of smart tokens last month. This has been reflected during the Durga Puja days. From Chaturthi to Dashami, Metro commuters have purchased 28,55,325 Smart Tokens, which are 2,47,536 (or 9.49% more) more than the previous year’s Durga Puja days’ sales.
The highest number of tokens was sold at Kalighat (2,38,165) followed by Dumdum (2,36,630) and Shovabazar – Sutanuti (1,73,550) during the festival days.
Non-fare revenue earnings
The Kolkata Metro has witnessed an increase in the non-fare revenue earnings. This has been generated through branding of Litter Bins at stations, displaying advertisements inside and outside Metro rakes, displaying hoardings in open spaces and installing health check-up kiosks at different stations, handling chain branding etc. From April 1 to October 31, the nation’s first metro system earned Rs 26.05 crores as Non-Fare Revenue (NFR).
