The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL) has signed a contract with Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL), formerly known as Titagarh Wagons Limited, for the commissioning of 72 standard gauge cars for the Surat Metro Rail Phase 1 Project. The TRSL has also received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for supply of 30 standard gauge cars for the Phase II of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project.
Project cost and completion target:-
The TRSL has received the order value of this project at an estimated cost of Rs 857 crores (approx). The execution of the contract is slated to commence 76 weeks after the signing of the contract and is expected to be completed in 132 weeks thereafter.
Details of Contract:-
The contract has been signed for Design, Manufacture, Supply, Testing, Commissioning and Training of these state-of-the-art metro cars. The cars will be manufactured at its Uttarpara plant, located in the Hooghly district of West Bengal.
About Surat Metro Project Phase I:-
The Surat Metro Rail Project encompasses two corridors spanning a total of 40.45 kilometres with 38 stations and an estimated cost of Rs 12,020 crores. The project consists of two corridors – (a) Sarthana-Dream City and (b) Bhesan-Saroli. The 21.61-kms-long Sarthana-Dream City corridor will have 20 stations while the 18.74-kms-long Bhesan-Saroli corridor will have 18 metro stations.
The Sarthana-Dream City Metro corridor will provide connectivity to Gadhpur Township, Sarthana Nature Park, Nana Varachhe village, Kalakunj Junction, Kapodra and Puna village, Labheshwar Chowk area, Big Diamond Market (Mini Bazar) of Surat, Retail Saree Market, Surat Railway Station, Muskati Hospital, Bhagal junction, Gandhi Bagh, Chowk Bazar, Majura Gate, Roopali Canal, Altha Treatment, Althan Gram, VIP road Women IIT, Bhimrad, Convention City and Dream City.
The areas like Bhesan Treatment Plant, International Cricket Stadium, SMC Botanical Garden, Palanpur, LP Savani School, Performing Art Centre, TGB Circle, Aquarium, Badri Narayan Temple, Star Bazar, Tapi River, Athawa Chopati, Majura Gate, UdhanaDarwaja, Kamala Darwaja, Anjana Junction, Parvat Patiya, Magub Village, Bharat Cancer Hospital, Saroli etc. are connected through Bhesan-Saoli metro route.
Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd receives LoA for Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II:-
The Kolkata-based company bagged a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from GMRC for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II Project in August, 2023. The order value is Rs 350 crore (approx). The TRL will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning and training of 30 numbers of Standard Gauge Cars for the Phase-II project.
