The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday (May 3) celebrated its 30th foundation day at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. On the occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Anurag Jain highlighted the importance of Delhi Metro services in every Delhiites life and said that it “has become the lifeline of the city” by promoting “ease of travel”.
While speaking at the event, Jain recalled one of his visits to another state, where he inspected the metro construction. He noted that all senior officials involved in the project had some connection to DMRC. “The expertise of Delhi Metro extends beyond Delhi, impacting metro networks nationwide,” he said.
One of the primary concerns of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has been the strategy of expanding the metro network across the entire country. “In our internal discussions, Delhi Metro has consistently been the benchmark,” Jain added.
Chief Secretary of the Government of NCT of Delhi Naresh Kumar, Paramvir Chakra Honorary Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav and the Managing Director of DMRC Dr. Vikas Kumar were also present at the ceremony celebrating 30 years of Delhi metro.
Adding a touch of entertainment into the celebration, the renowned singer Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam and acclaimed stand-up comedian and actor Sunil Grover graced the stage for an evening of laughter and melody.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation inaugurated its inaugural corridor between Shahdara and Tis Hazari on December 25, 2002. Currently, the Delhi Metro network spans approximately 392.44 kilometers, serving 288 stations.
Botanical Garden gets ‘best metro station’ award
According to a statement released by the DMRC on Friday, the Botanical Garden metro station won the award for best station, while the Shastri Park depot was named the “best metro depot”. “Botanical Garden metro station won the awards of best metro station, while Shastri Park depot won the award of best metro depot. A special award for contribution to the use and promotion of Raj Bhasha was also given to Gopesh Kumar Verma, senior station manager,” the statement stated.
