The Union Cabinet has approved the 26.463-km Rithala-Kundli corridor under Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV expansion, aimed at enhancing connectivity between Delhi and Haryana. The project was sanctioned during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressing a press conference, announced that the corridor will feature 21 elevated stations and is scheduled for completion within four years of its sanction. Once operational, this line will extend the Red Line, currently running between Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) and Rithala, and improve access to areas like Narela, Bawana, and Rohini.

Vaishnaw highlighted the significance of this development, stating that Delhi Metro is on track to become one of the three largest metro networks globally. The Rithala-Kundli corridor will mark Delhi Metro’s fourth extension into Haryana, complementing existing services to Gurugram, Ballabhgarh, and Bahadurgarh.

The project’s total cost is estimated at Rs 6,230 crore. Key stations along the corridor include Rohini Sector 26, Bawana JJ Colony, Narela DDA Sports Complex, and Kundli, among others.

As per the government’s statement, construction on Phase-IV’s three priority corridors, covering 65.202 km and 45 stations, is over 56% complete, with expected stages of completion by March 2026. Additionally, two more corridors spanning 20.762 km are in pre-tendering stages.

Delhi Metro currently operates 12 lines covering 392 km and 288 stations, serving an average of 64 lakh passenger journeys daily. The network achieved its highest ridership on November 18 this year, with 78.67 lakh passenger journeys.

This expansion reflects the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility and regional connectivity through sustainable and efficient transport systems.
