Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section on Sunday (January 5), marking the opening of the first segment of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Phase-IV network, officials announced. The PMO stated that this will be the first stretch of Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV to be inaugurated, benefiting areas in West Delhi such as Krishna Park, parts of Vikaspuri, and Janakpuri.

Passenger services on this Magenta Line extension commenced at 3 PM on Sunday.

“With the addition of Krishna Park Extension Station, the Delhi Metro network now comprises 289 stations spanning a total length of 394.448 km. This new section is an extension of the already operational Botanical Garden-Janakpuri West on Magenta Line,” Dayal stated.

The extension will provide improved connectivity for commuters in the Krishna Park Extension area. Initially, services between Janakpuri West and Krishna Park Extension will operate at a frequency of 16 minutes to ensure a smooth transition, he added.

PM to lay foundation stone of Rithala-Kundli section

During the event, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the 26.5-km-long Rithala-Narela-Kundli (Sonipat) Metro corridor, which is part of Phase IV.

The PMO stated that the corridor, estimated to cost Rs 6,230 crore, will link Rithala in Delhi to Nathupur (Kundli) in Haryana, significantly enhancing connectivity in North-West Delhi and nearby regions. It will serve key areas such as Rohini, Bawana, Narela, and Kundli, facilitating better access to residential, commercial, and industrial zones while integrating travel across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

With the inclusion of this section, the Magenta Line will now span approximately 40 km. The remaining extension from Krishna Park Extension to RK Ashram Marg is expected to be completed in phases by 2026, with ongoing work progressing steadily, Dayal noted.
