The Delhi Metro has set an unprecedented milestone, breaking its own record for the highest passenger journeys on a single day 17 times in the past month, DMRC said in an official statement on Friday.
Previously, the highest passenger journey count stood at 71,09,938, recorded on 13th February 2024. However, between 12th August and 12th September 2024, this mark was surpassed multiple times, solidifying the Delhi Metro’s position as the capital’s most reliable mode of public transport.
Out of the top 20 passenger journeys recorded to date, 19 have taken place this year alone, with 17 of them within the past month. The highest ever single-day journey record was set on 20th August 2024, with 77,49,682 passengers using the metro.
In the last four days alone, Delhi Metro has registered some of its highest passenger journeys, as shown below:
1. 2nd highest on 9th September – 77,16,910
2. 3rd highest on 10th September – 75,71,124
3. 4th highest on 11th September – 75,50,620
4. 5th highest on 12th September – 73,25,403
Given the surge in passengers, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that it will run an additional train on all lines, offering 84 extra train trips today and tomorrow. This adjustment will continue on weekdays if demand persists.
This increasing reliance on the metro underscores its growing reputation as the most dependable and comfortable mode of public transport, particularly during the current spells of heavy rain and humidity that have caused road blockages and delays. The metro’s punctuality ensures commuters reach their destinations on time despite external challenges.
Additionally, the integration of 29 interchange stations has improved seamless connectivity across Delhi-NCR, making travel more convenient than ever. To further ease travel, DMRC has rolled out multiple channels for ticket booking, including the DMRC Saarthi App, One Delhi App, WhatsApp, Paytm, and Amazon Pay, encouraging passengers to book tickets before reaching the station to avoid long queues.
As the Delhi Metro continues to set new records, it remains a testament to the city’s growing preference for efficient, reliable public transport.
