Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will soon collaborate with Namma Yatri (Moving Tech Innovations Private Limited) to provide last-mile connectivity to metro stations by plying auto-rickshaw services.
BMRCL & Namma Yatri tie up
BMRCL is currently planning to work with Namma Yatri and Bangalore Traffic police on an app that will be specially catered for metro commuters. Passengers can book auto-rickshaws by using this app at their nearest metro stations. The motive behind the initiative is to offer safe travel at reasonable rates. In a statement given to The Indian Express, BMRCL stated that Namma Yatri has put forward a plan for setting up the kiosks dedicated to offering last-mile connectivity services. At the initial level, the plan will be implemented on a trial basis at the Indiranagar metro station, if it is a hit then it will be allowed to operate on other stations too.
How does the Namma Yatri app work?
As per the official, Namma Yatri will set up their counter on a pilot basis at Indiranagar Metro Station by the end of this month and will launch it in June. The app will allow the auto-rickshaw drivers to select the destinations from the metro stations. They can even prioritize the destination on their dashboard by opting for a particular ride. The app will follow a queue system.
The moment a driver gets to know that there is no ride available, the request will transfer to another queue system for using a normal ride. If the initiative turns out successful then a long-standing issue of last-mile connectivity at the Bengaluru Metro Stations will be resolved. Commuters will also get relief from the exploitation of auto-rickshaw drivers for charging huge amounts for traveling short distances.
