The newly inaugurated Namo Bharat Rapid Rail (NBRR) promises a significant upgrade in intercity travel, offering both cost-effective and time-efficient options between Bhuj and Ahmedabad. Flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, this state-of-the-art train is designed to provide a superior alternative to traditional non-AC and AC buses.
Cost-Effective Journey
According to Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the NBRR presents a more economical choice compared to intercity buses. While a non-AC bus fare from Bhuj to Gandhidham is Rs 110 and an AC bus costs Rs 140, the NBRR offers the same journey for just Rs 75. The train’s affordability makes it a compelling choice for budget-conscious travelers.
The NBRR not only stands out in terms of cost but also excels in speed. It covers the 359 km distance between Bhuj and Ahmedabad in just 5.45 hours, significantly quicker than the 2-hour bus journey to Gandhidham. The train achieves this with a maximum speed of 110 kmph and an average speed of approximately 65 kmph.
Featuring 12 coaches, the NBRR accommodates up to 1,150 seated passengers and provides standing space for over 3,200 people. The train’s ergonomic design includes fully air-conditioned cabins, modular interiors, and advanced safety features such as the KAVACH collision avoidance system, fire detection, and emergency lighting. Accessibility is enhanced with Divyangjan-friendly toilets and a flexible gangway.
The NBRR incorporates advanced technology with under-slung propulsion, automatic sliding doors, and ejector-based vacuum toilets. The modular design aims to offer a smoother ride, reduced crowding, and a more comfortable journey. The train also features continuous LED lighting and a talk-back system for passenger communication with the driver.
