Bengaluru: To ensure smooth travel for commuters during Republic Day celebrations and the Lalbagh Flower Show, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced extended metro services. Starting from 6:00 am on Republic Day, metro trains will operate one hour earlier than usual from all four terminals, including Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station, Majestic.
Increased Frequency and Extra Trips for Metro Services
In addition to the early start, BMRCL will run 20 extra trips on both the green and purple lines to accommodate the anticipated surge in passengers due to the Lalbagh Flower Show and the Republic Day event at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Madavara.
For attendees of the Lalbagh Flower Show, BMRCL has introduced a flat-rate paper ticket priced at Rs 30, which is valid for travel from Lalbagh Metro Station to any other station on the network. These tickets will be available from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, and tokens will not be issued at Lalbagh station during this period. Payments for paper tickets can only be made in cash.
The 217th edition of the flower show is set to run until January 26, featuring spectacular floral displays. This year’s theme, “Aadikavi Maharshi Valmiki,” includes a grand replica of a Hutta (Valmika) at the center of the Lalbagh Glass House.
With the event expected to attract 8–10 lakh visitors, including tourists, dignitaries, and school children, BMRCL has prepared to handle the increased passenger footfall. The Wilson Garden Traffic Police Station has also issued parking guidelines to ensure smooth traffic around Lalbagh.
For hassle-free travel, passengers are encouraged to use Tokens, Contactless Smart Cards (CSC), National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), or QR tickets across the metro network. BMRCL urges passengers to take advantage of the extended services and special arrangements to enjoy seamless travel to Republic Day events.
