Ayodhya Mosque Design: In a significant development, an umbrella organisation of mosques recently revealed that a proposed mosque in the Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh will bear the name “Mohammed Bin Abdullah Masjid”. The decision was announced after a gathering of clerics in Mumbai, organised by the All India Rabta-e-Masjid, a national association of mosques.

This mosque will be established by the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation Trust (IICF) on a piece of land allocated in Dhannipur village, aligning with the directives of the Supreme Court’s 2019 Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title verdict. The verdict paved the way for the construction of a Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Notably, the site chosen for the mosque is situated approximately 22 kilometers away from the original location of the Babri Masjid, which was tragically demolished in December 1992.

Design inspired from ancient Islamic architecture

The decision to name the forthcoming mosque after Prophet Mohammed-Bin-Abdullah underscores its deep significance in the Islamic world. The design of the mosque will draw inspiration from ancient Islamic architectural styles, and its construction will be overseen by Pune-based architect Imran Sheikh, ensuring that it embodies the rich traditions of Islamic architecture.

Zufar Farooqi, Chairman of the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, who attended the meeting in Mumbai, shared insights into the project. He revealed that the precise dimensions of the mosque would be disclosed soon, expressing optimism that it would stand as one of the world’s most beautiful mosques, characterised by its traditional aesthetic.

Fundraising target

A crucial aspect of this initiative is the fundraising goal, with a target set at more than ₹300 crore. These funds will be allocated for not only the construction of the mosque but also for a hospital, a kitchen, and a library. Farooqi emphasised the preparedness to collect these necessary funds, with construction commencing as soon as the required resources are secured.
