In an effort to enhance security of users, taxi aggregator Uber India on Thursday introduced the number masking feature, wherein calls between the customer and the driver will be connected using an anonymous phone number.
Deval Delivala, Uber’s India Safety Lead, said: “We care deeply about the safety of our riders and drivers. This new safety technology will help provide increased security before, during and after the ride.”
Over the last six months, Uber has introduced a number of safety initiatives like, the re-verification of all driver-partners with the police across cities, adding an SOS button to connect riders with the local police in the event of an emergency.
Ever since its launch in India in 2013, Uber has been rapidly expanding and is now operational in 22 Indian cities.
