The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) will conduct an open house discussion on differential pricing for data services on Thursday at PHD House in New Delhi.
Trai, in a notification said, “interested stakeholders are invited to participate” in open house discussion on its consultation paper on ‘Differential Prices for Data Services’. The issue holds importance in the wake of net neutrality debate which has stirred a controversy across the country.
While telecom companies want differential pricing for data services, a section of activists are opposed to it. They contend that if differential pricing is allowed, it would curb freedom and choice to access internet. Facebook has launched a massive campaign to project its Free Basics platform as a tool to spread web connectivity.
