Four days after Flipkart re-launched its mobile website, Flipkart Lite, its immediate competitor Snapdeal launched a lite version of its website for mobile browsers, called Snap-Lite, on Thursday. The Delhi-based e-tailer’s chief product officer Anand Chandrasekaran tweeted: “Is there a http://Snapdeal.com experience that’s 85% faster? Introducing Snap-lite (across all mobile browsers).”
According to Chandrasekaran, over a third of Snapdeal’s sessions come from a low speed connection. “Snapdeal supports progressive web, and the new Snap-Lite offering is a step in that direction. We find that over a third of our sessions come from a low-speed connection and Snap-Lite enhances customer experience for these users. From our testing, it is 85% faster with slower data connections,” he told FE.
This announcement comes days after Flipkart re launched its mobile website- Flipkart Lite which is exclusively designed for users who do not wish to install the app.
According to sources in the company, Flipkart’s teach team worked with Chrome and Opera to come up with
the recent launch and is currently working with Firefox as well. Snapdeal goes a step ahead of Flipkart as Chandrasekaran claims that Snap-lite will be available on all major browsers.
The Lite version of the Snapdeal browser is available on the footer of the Snapdeal webpage and once you visit
the Lite version, you will be redirected to it by default everytime you log in through your phone.
