Sanjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, has written a letter to the Board of Directors of Sona Comstar, where she alleged that some people are trying to wrest control of the company after the sudden death of the company Chairman and Non-Executive Director Sanjay Kapur, says a CNBC-TV18 report.
As per the letter accessed by CNBC TV-18, Rani Kapur wrote in the letter to the board that by virtue of the will executed in 2015 by the late Surinder Kapur, Rani Kapur’s husband and Sanjay Kapur’s father, she is the sole beneficiary of the estate and majority shareholder in the company.
“It is unfortunate that while the family and I are still in mourning, some people have chosen this as an opportune time to wrest control and usurp the family legacy.” Rani Kapur said in the letter.
Documents signed under coercion
Rani Kapur says that some people are representing themselves as the largest shareholder of the company. However, Rani Kapur alleges that she signed certain documents under coercion and duress, and people have misused her mental vulnerability after her son’s death.
She said in the letter,” I reiterate that by virtue of the Will left behind by my late husband, I am the majority shareholder in the Company and thereby the only authority to represent the interests of the family in the Company/Sona Group.”
Further, Rani Kapur added that, despite being the majority shareholder in the company, the matter of the appointment of the director was not discussed with her. She said that she has not given consent to anyone to represent her on the board.
Sona Comstar AGM
Sona Comstar’s AGM is scheduled to take place today. July 25. Rani Kapur asked in her letter to the board to postpone the AGM for two weeks for better handling of the situation. She has requested that the board not proceed with the appointment of directors.
Rani Kapur added, “If however, your esteemed selves choose to ignore this mail and move forward tomorrow without conferring with me and discussing threadbare the details of what has unfolded, I would be left with no other option but to assume that it was a conscious decision taken by you to the detriment of the company and the family as you have chosen to be part of the illegalities which are unfolding every day.”
