Chief Minister MK Stalin-led DMK government in Tamil Nadu said on Wednesday that global aerospace and defence technology leader Rolls-Royce has expressed strong interest in expanding its footprint in the state. According to the government, the UK-headquartered firm plans to establish a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, a research and training centre and significantly expand its IAMPL joint venture in Hosur.

“With Tamil Nadu being home to one of India’s two Defence Industrial Corridors, this engagement with Rolls-Royce underscores the state’s potential as a hub for advanced aerospace manufacturing,” the state industries department said. Rolls-Royce is one of the few global conglomerates with a leadership role in high-end jet engine manufacturing for both civilian and military aviation.

TN Rising European tour

Meanwhile, CM Stalin’s ongoing TN Rising European tour has yielded a series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) across defence, aerospace, shipbuilding intelligence, renewable energy, textiles and design technology.

Lloyd’s List Intelligence (SEASEARCHER) signed an MoU to expand its Global Capability Centre in Chennai. According to reports, Wilson Power & Distribution Technologies will invest Rs 300 crore in a transformer plant, generating 543 jobs, while Britannia RFID Technologies India announced a Rs 520-crore investment in Tiruppur and Namakkal, creating 550 jobs through RFID tag units.

Aligning with opportunities from India-UK FTA

In the field of education, Ecole Intuit Lab partnered with Sakthi Excellence Academy to set up a design institute in Coimbatore. The University of Exeter also signed an MoU for joint research programmes and faculty exchange.

According to the government, the MoUs align with opportunities arising from the India-UK Free Trade Agreement and “mark long-term steps to position Tamil Nadu as a national and global leader in high-value sectors.”
