In alignment with India’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070, TiE Delhi-NCR recently hosted the Sustainability Summit, dedicated to promoting sustainability and eco-conscious practices. The event convened startup founders, investors, policymakers, and other key stakeholders to engage in discussions and explore innovative solutions aimed at fostering a sustainable future.

Anjalli Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Zomato, emphasised the company’s dedication to being a net-zero enterprise by 2033, encompassing their entire value chain. She highlighted Zomato’s commitment to transitioning to 100% electric vehicle (EV) deliveries, with approximately one in five deliveries in Delhi and Bengaluru already being EV-based, thanks to partnerships facilitated by startups affiliated with networks like TiE Delhi-NCR.

The summit reflects TiE Delhi-NCR’s commitment to spotlighting startups that are making significant contributions to the sustainability sector. The event delved into various dimensions of sustainability, including innovations in food and water, sustainable manufacturing, environmental conservation, and mobility solutions. The overarching goal was to harmonise business success with environmental responsibility, creating new opportunities and business prospects.

Sangeeta Sharma, General Manager Sales-South Asia at Lufthansa Group, emphasised their dedication to sustainability, aiming to achieve CO2 neutrality by 2050. She shared Lufthansa Group’s significant investment in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and the procurement of cutting-edge aircraft designed to reduce emissions by 30% on every flight.

The summit featured expert panels with prominent investors and industry leaders discussing sustainability and its implications, offering insights and strategies for a more eco-friendly future. Sudhakar Kesavan, Former Chairman & CEO of ICF Global, emphasised the need for institutional mechanisms to educate sustainability at all educational levels, highlighting the importance of accelerating sustainability efforts.

Geetika Dayal, Executive Director of TiE Delhi-NCR, stated that, given the global impact of climate change, environmentally friendly and sustainable practices have become paramount. TiE Delhi-NCR has undertaken measures such as reducing paper usage and eliminating plastic bottles at their conferences. The Sustainability Summit further reinforces their commitment to fostering innovation among startups that can contribute to a greener and more efficient future.
