Commercial LPG cylinder prices hiked: State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have announced the increase in prices of 19 kg commercial LPG gas cylinders by Rs 25 with effect from 1 March 2024. With this, the retail price of a commercial gas cylinder of 19 kg stands at Rs 1795 in Delhi, while in Mumbai, it will be sold for Rs 1749 starting today. In Chennai and Kolkata, the price of the commercial LPG gas cylinder will be at Rs 1960 and Rs 1911 respectively. 

Previous price hike in FY24 so far

Before this, the state-run companies had increased the cost of commercial gas cylinders on 1 February when rates of a 19 kg gas cylinder were hiked by Rs 14. In February, a 19 kg LPG cylinder was prices at Rs 1769.50 in Delhi, Rs 1887 in Kolkata, Rs 1723 in Mumbai and Rs 1937 in Chennai. The oil companies, prior to this, had taken a price increase on 1 December, 2023 of Rs 21 in various locations in the country. However, later during December, the prices of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders were slashed by Rs 39.50 per cylinder. 

Meanwhile, there have been no changes in the prices of domestic gas cylinders. A 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi is sold at Rs 903, at Rs 902.50 in Mumbai and is priced at Rs 918.50 in Chennai. 

LPG a key component of household budget

The price of LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) cylinders is primarily determined by the Oil Marketing companies- BPCL, HPCL and IOCL generally there is a revision on a monthly basis. With nearly 6 in every 10 households using LPG in India, the price of LPG directly impacts the common man’s budget in India. However, one must remember that the price of LPG for domestic use is significantly different from the commercial. Overall every Indian family is entitled to up to 12 subsidized cylinders every year. However, citizens also have the option for unsubsidized LPG cylinders by voluntarily giving up subsidy.
