This year, two customers from Delhi and Dehradun spent Rs 20 lakh each on Swiggy Instamart, becoming the biggest spenders on the platform. According to a report released by the company, groceries continue to be the top category for buyers on the platform this year.
In its “How India Swiggy’d 2024-Quick Commerce Edition,” Swiggy said that the top five most-ordered products were milk, curd, dosa batter, chips, and soft drinks. This reiterates the fact that Indians prefer quick commerce mainly for groceries.
For the two top spenders, the most-ordered products were atta, milk and oil.
Swiggy said that 20% of all orders either had a fruit or vegetable.
The rapid rise of quick commerce in India cab be witnessed from an increased interest of investors as well as customers in the space.
Swiggy Instamart, which according to JP Morgan has the fastest delivery among its peers, said that its fastest delivery this year happened in Kochi, in just 89 seconds.
In individual categories, a Mumbai resident spent over Rs 15 lakh this year on pet supplies, primarily dog and cat food. Meanwhile, a Chennai user splurged Rs 1.25 lakh on electronics, electricals, and home appliances this year, picking up nearly 85 items, including gaming earphones, smartwatches, an induction cooker, a sandwich maker, a hair straightener, a table fan and a toaster, among other things.
Another user from Hyderabad spent as much as Rs 35,000 on mangoes in May.
The trends in the report also highlighted how quick commerce has become an important channel for shopping during festivals.
Delhi bought poker chips worth Rs 460,000 on Diwali. On Raksha Bandhan, Instamart delivered around 800,000 rakhis. The day also saw 285,000 deliveries under ‘order for others’ section, and 273 chocolates were ordered per minute.
On Valentine’s Day, 307 roses per minute were ordered through the platform.
