Akila Urankar of Business Standard has been elected as the new president of The Indian Newspaper Society (INS). She succeeds Somesh Sharma of Rashtradoot Saptahik for the position. Urankar’s tenure will be for the year 2017-18 and her appointment was announced at the 78th Annual General Meeting of INS in Bengaluru on Friday.

Other members of INS include, Jayant Mammen Mathew of Malayala Manorama as the deputy president, Shailesh Gupta of Mid-Day as the vice president and Sharad Saxena of Hindustan Times, Patna, as the honorary treasurer for the year 2017-18. SP Gaur is the secretary general of the society.
