Consumers across the country are bullish about shopping online during this festive season with one in two willing to increase their spending during this festive season as compared to last year, said a study conducted by Nielsen Media India, on behalf of Amazon India. It said that 81 per cent of consumers intend to shop online during this festive season and over 75 per cent consumers trust e-commerce platforms to offer genuine products and find it most convenient for festive shopping. “Consumers expect a wide selection, unmatched value with competitive pricing, plus convenience of easy returns and exchange, which is driving the core online shopping experience,” it said.
Further, the report added that 68 per cent of consumers trust Amazon.in the most and 75 per cent find the widest range and selection of products and brands on Amazon.in. “Amazon.in is the most preferred online brand for consumers across India to shop for Large Appliances (51 per cent), Mobiles/Smartphones (44 per cent), Consumer Electronics (43 per cent), Grocery items (41 per cent), Home and Kitchen (40 per cent), Apparels, Footwear & Fashion Accessories (38 per cent), and Beauty (35 per cent),” the report said.

The study stated that 87 per cent of consumers in metros and 86 per cent across tier-II cities (population 10-40 lakh) will prefer to shop online this festive period. Over 77 per cent of consumers affirmed that online festive shopping events enhance convenience of their online shopping experience with options like faster delivery. Further, it added that more than 70 per cent of consumers wait for online festive shopping events to purchase electronic items – attractive offers (76 per cent) and new brand launches (75 per cent) are core drivers. Over 75 per cent of consumers are excited with attractive bank offers and No-Cost EMIs for making their purchase more convenient and rewarding.
“3 in 4 consumers wait for online festive shopping events to purchase large appliances as these events give them access to new brands and product launches across products such as refrigerators, washing machines, geysers, and air conditioners. An intriguing insight into consumer behaviour reveals that 76 per cent of consumers wait for online festive shopping events to purchase smartphones; ~60 per cent are interested in the Rs 10k-20k price range, while 2 in 3 consumers seek 5G features,” the report said.
In terms of payment methods, 42 per cent of consumers are choosing UPI for online festive shopping. In addition, 57 per cent indicated that their favoured digital payment method for earning rewards and cashback is UPI, especially during the festive season.
