Philips, a global leader in health technology, and Medtronic, a pioneer in medical technology, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in India to enhance clinician training in advanced imaging for structural heart diseases. The initiative aims to upskill over 300 cardiologists and radiologists in multi-modality imaging, including echocardiography (echo) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), particularly benefiting patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
The training will combine theoretical sessions with hands-on experience using Philips’ cutting-edge ultrasound and MRI systems. Conducted under the guidance of leading international and Indian experts, these educational workshops will be hosted at 15 key medical institutions specialising in structural heart procedures.
“At Philips, our focus is on innovation and education to improve patient care,” said Bharath Sesha, managing director, Philips Indian Subcontinent. “By equipping clinicians with advanced imaging techniques, we aim to enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes, especially for ESRD patients.”
Mandeep Singh Kumar, vice-president and managing director of Medtronic India, emphasised the impact of this collaboration. “By providing specialised training, we can improve the precision of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedures and enhance patient care.”
With India witnessing 2.2 lakh new ESRD cases annually, advanced imaging solutions are critical. Medtronic’s TAVR system, which recently marked 20 years since its first procedure, continues to revolutionise heart valve replacement. Philips’ AI-driven imaging software, which reduces reliance on nephrotoxic contrast agents, will further safeguard kidney health, improving both the quality and longevity of patients’ lives.
