The union labour ministry is inspecting the recent case of death of an EY India employee under work stress, and has sought information from state authorities regarding the same, Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told reporters on Monday.
The state authorities are preparing a report on the incident, and are expected to send it to the Centre in the next seven-to-ten days. “We will have to study the report…We’ll be able to tell more about it when the report comes,” Mandaviya told reporters.
“The post mortem report will come, the police will give a report. We’ll speak with the company also, and take any action based on the reports findings,” he said.
On July 20, 26-year-old Anna Sebastian Perayil, a Chartered Accountant from Kerala who was an employee of Ernst & Young (EY) Pune, passed away due to “work stress” (as claimed by her mother).
Anna’s mother sent a mail to EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani, where she criticised the company’s work culture, and highlighted the absence of any employee of the company at the deceased’s funeral.
Last week, in a LinkedIn post, Memani expressed regret over not attending Anna’s funeral and said that he is “committed to nurturing a harmonious workplace”. Memani wrote that post hours after Shobha Karandlaje, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, said an investigation into alleged toxic workplace environment has been launched by the Ministry.
