Entering the growing e-rickshaw segment in the market, Zelio Ebikes launched two e-rickshaw models, namely Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS, priced at Rs. 1.45 lakhs and Rs. 1.40 lakhs (ex-showroom) respectively. Manufactured for commuters in both urban and semi-urban areas, these models were first revealed at the EV India Expo 2024, last month.
Zelio has marked its expansion in the shared mobility sector with the launch of Tanga Butterfly (made of Mild Steel) and Tanga SS (made of Stainless Steel).
Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS: Powertrain
The Tanga Butterfly and the Tanga SS are powered by a 1200W motor with a 48/60V 135Ah eastman battery. Both these models give a top speed of 30kmph and a range of 100 km on a single charge. The batteries of these models take eight hours to charge and for safety, each e-rickshaw includes an SMPS charger with voltage fluctuation protection.
Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS: Specifications
The Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS feature advanced braking systems with front lever-operated drum brakes, rear paddle-operated drum brakes, and a mechanical parking brake. They are equipped with 43mm telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers at the front and leaf spring shockers at the rear, along with TVS 3.75-12 mm tyres on both front and rear wheels for a smoother ride.
Both the models feature a durable and safe high-rigidity monocoque frame. The dimensions include a wheelbase of 2030 mm, length of 2690 mm, width of 1000 mm, height of 1710 mm, and a ground clearance of 200 mm.
Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS: Features and Colours
For both driver and passenger convenience, the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS come equipped with features including a wide front glass with a wiper, a stepney with cover, handle lock, FM radio with double speakers, digital meter, central locking, heavy curtains, taxi light, LED cabin light, LED headlamps with DRL, LED indicators, a bottle holder, and a cash pocket. Additional common accessories for both models include a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tool kit, and jack.
The Tanga Butterfly comes in various colour options such as Red, Grey, White, Sky Blue, and Military Green, while the Tanga SS will come in Blue, Red, Sea Blue, Parrot Green, and Grey.

Zelio’s Expansion
Zelio is offering financing options through Akasha and Try Wheels to ease the purchase process. Additionally, Zelio plans to offer specialised support and services for this new category.
Launched in 2021, Zelio has a network of over 273 dealerships and more than 200,000 customers. The company plans to expand its network to 400 dealerships by March 2025, strengthening its role in promoting sustainable transportation across India.
