Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal and comedian Kunal Kamra were involved in a war of words on social media on Sunday over the service quality for the company’s scooters. Ola Electric has been facing a surge of complaints in recent times, with the company reportedly receiving around 80,000 grievances per month.
Kamra shared a photo of an Ola service centre in Jaipur, where dusty scooters were lined up, awaiting repairs. He questioned whether Indian consumers had a voice and tagged Union minister Nitin Gadkari and consumer rights groups, criticising Ola for its lack of support, particularly for daily wage workers who depend on their vehicles.
Aggarwal responded with a taunt, offering Kamra a job at Ola, claiming he’d pay him more than his “failed comedy career” had earned. Kamra countered by asking for refunds for dissatisfied customers who bought Ola scooters in the last four months, accusing the company of poor accountability. Aggarwal, in turn, dismissed Kamra’s criticism as “armchair” complaints, stating that Ola is expanding its service network to tackle the backlog.
This spat comes at a time when Ola’s service centres are overwhelmed, with customers experiencing repair delays of up to 45 days. The company has seen a sharp decline in sales, with August sales down 34% from July, and its market share shrinking from 39% to 33%.
In response, Ola has assembled a new service team to handle the growing complaints. However, customer frustrations remain high, with many turning to social media and filing formal complaints with consumer protection bodies. Several other users have also claimed that they were approached by company representatives to reshare positive news about the company in return for a payment.
