Close on the heels of orders from Nagpur Municipal corporation, electric bus maker, Eka Mobility has bagged two orders totalling around Rs.150 crore from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) for 40 AC electric buses.
Eka Mobility and UPSRTC: The order details
The orders include the supply and maintenance of 40 nos. Eka 12, 12-meter AC electric
buses and 30 nos. Eka 9, 9-meter AC electric buses, which will upgrade UPSRTC’s fleet with advanced, eco-friendly vehicles designed for the safety, comfort, and operational efficiency of the passenger. Chargers will also be provided by Eka Mobility for smooth operations. Both projects come with long-term annual maintenance contracts (AMC) to keep the buses performing at their best for the next 10 years.
Rohit Srivastava, Chief Growth Officer of Eka Mobility, commented, “These orders represent not just a business milestone for Eka Mobility but also a testament to our commitment to providing innovative, sustainable, and accessible mobility solutions for India. Together, we aim to set new benchmarks in public transport efficiency and environmental stewardship.”
Eka Mobility in 2024
Previously in October this year, Eka Mobility had secured two significant orders from Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to supply 250 electric buses to improve public transport and reduce operational costs and emissions. The service was previously handled by Hansa Vahan, formerly known as M/s Hansa Travels, which then partnered with EKA Mobility to produce and supply 12-meter, air-conditioned e-buses. Hansa Travels will also manage an annual maintenance contract for the buses throughout their operation. Each bus has seating for 41 passengers and space for 24 standing commuters.
Eka Mobility has also partnered with Ikea to supply electric delivery vans as part of IKEA’s initiative to electrify its last-mile delivery fleet in India, backed by Mitsui & Co and VDL Groep. This was to help IKEA significantly reduce its carbon footprint, making its logistics operations more sustainable and eco-friendly. EKA’s electric vans include features such as advanced battery technology, ensuring reliable, efficient, and cost-effective service in urban areas.
In the beginning of this year, Eka Mobility launched 1.5-tonne electric Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), designed to meet the changing needs of modern logistics and transportation companies, at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. The e-LCV Eka K1.5 range is powered by 300 volts electrical system architecture offering the highest ever peak power of 60kW in the industry.
The company had also signed an agreement with GreenCell Mobility to supply 1,000 intercity e-buses in 12-metre and 13.5-metre categories, in the coming few years, and will be responsible for its supply, sales and service of these buses along with delivery quality certification reports.
Eka (Pinnacle Mobility Solutions), with equity partners Mitsui Co. (Japan) and VDL Groep (Netherlands), is an automotive and technology company reshaping global electric commercial vehicle (CV) mobility. The company aims for a sustainable future by building an ecosystem for eco-friendly transportation. Their shareable technologies and cost-effective production processes help reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) and make electric vehicles more accessible to the masses.
