The Territorial Army (TA) is commemorating its Platinum Jubilee with an extraordinary expedition spanning from the Siachen Glacier in Ladakh to Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This remarkable journey, covering approximately 5,500 kilometers, is being conducted through a combination of cycling, sailing, and scuba diving, reflecting the TA’s spirit of adventure and dedication. The expedition marks the TA’s 75th anniversary, which will be celebrated on October 9, 2024.

The 21-member team embarked on this historic expedition from the Siachen Glacier on July 30, 2024. After reaching New Delhi on July 21, 2024, the team paid tribute at the National War Memorial before setting off towards Indira Point. The final leg of the journey was flagged off by Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Information Systems and Coordination), alongside other senior Army officials.

The expedition’s route will see the team cycling through the length of the country to Chennai, from where they will proceed to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The journey will culminate at Indira Point, the southernmost tip of India, where the team plans to hoist the Indian Tricolour underwater at a depth of 40 meters, symbolizing the TA’s deep connection to the nation’s spirit.

Throughout the expedition, the TA team is engaging in various public awareness activities focused on national integration, environmental consciousness, and promoting the Indian Army. The team is also paying homage to veterans and the families of military personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

The Territorial Army (TA), established in 1949 following the enactment of the Territorial Army Act of 1948, has grown into a crucial component of the Indian Army, playing significant roles in various operations and earning numerous awards for gallantry. To commemorate its Platinum Jubilee, marking 75 years of service, the TA has embarked on a historic expedition from the Siachen Glacier in Ladakh to Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This extraordinary journey covers approximately 5,500 kilometers across land, air, and sea, involving activities such as cycling, sailing, and scuba diving.

The 21-member expedition team began its journey from the Siachen Glacier on July 30, 2024, and reached New Delhi on July 21, 2024, where they honoured fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial. The next phase of their journey was flagged off in New Delhi by Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Information Systems and Coordination), along with Lieutenant General Raju Baijal, Director General of the Territorial Army, and other senior Army officials.

As the team cycles through the country towards Chennai, they will then continue their journey to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The expedition will conclude at Indira Point, the southernmost point of India, where the team will hoist the Indian Tricolour underwater at a depth of 40 meters, symbolizing their deep commitment to the nation.

Throughout the expedition, the TA team is conducting public awareness campaigns focused on national integration, environmental consciousness, and promoting the Indian Army. Additionally, the team is paying tribute to veterans and honouring the families of military personnel who have sacrificed their lives in service to the nation. 

This expedition not only commemorates the TA’s 75 years of dedicated service but also aims to foster a strong civil-military connection, highlighting the TA’s significant contributions to nation-building, environmental management, and ecological restoration.
